Correcting Recurrent Pterygiums

Dr. Gulani is uniquely experienced in correcting previous pterygiums that have recurred for patients that have travelled to him from all over the globe. Approaching each pterygium in a custom designed surgical fashion Dr. Gulani further classifies these pterygium into the follow categories:

  1. Mild
  2. Medium
  3. Large

Additionally, he further classifies the pterygia based on their location:

  1. Unilateral
    a. Medial: toward the nose
    b. Lateral: toward outer part of the eye
    c. Superior or Inferior: less common locations
  2. Bi-temporal: on each side of the eye
  3. Circumferential

Furthermore, the recurrence is classified:

  1. Limited: recurrence within previous surgical area
  2. Extensive: involving adjacent ocular tissues
