In Remembrance: It’s 3 months since another doyen of our ophthalmic industry passed away.
Late Michelle Glossip, CEO of Crestpoint.
We had recently met at the Academy conference in California where she collected her team and took these pictures, proud of this flier she had designed while launching my new cataract surgical instrument.
Just a week before she passed, she was excitedly calling and emailing to launch new ventures with my series of surgical instruments. In fact she was the first to call me to inform of the passing of Late Dr. Spencer Thornton, 2 months before her. Two Titans lost in 1 year.
Michelle, a dynamo I met 25 years ago when I had recently come to the United States with zero notoriety yet complete confidence. I remember walking up to her booth to tell her about my new designs for Lasik surgeries which was just starting in the US and from that day on at every national conference she would run out of her booth and hug me and I would call her the energizer bunny of our industry.
An amazing soul always excited for the future of eye surgery. In her last days and I wish I knew it was her last days, she would insist that I should write a book on innovative surgery and surgical instruments and I promise to do so.
I spoke to her company to change the name of this instrument to Gulani Glossip Harpoon in her honor.
Let’s continue to innovate and honor these amazing souls who gave so much of their life to our amazing profession. RIP Michelle
