In the Navy, I always had a fear of losing myglasses or contacts when I needed them most – in a fire or on a bridge watch. At home, I always felt very vulnerable at night – if there was an emergency I would have to fumble for my glasses before I could react. My vision was so bad I couldn’t see the big “E” on the eye charts.
