 My name is Dr. Alberto Leon. I am a Pediatrician and as you might imagine vision, especially near vision, is very important in my profession.

I have had myopia, or problems relating to seeing at distance, since childhood. I have used eyeglasses and contacts for years, until I had Lasik correction by a previous ophthalmologist. Due to the demands of my job, one eye was left for near vision and one fully corrected to be able to see both near and far without glasses. This worked, but vision was not optimal in either aspect. For prolonged reading, I needed eyeglasses to bring both eyes to near vision and another pair for distance driving.

Lately, I developed cataracts and was told that surgery was needed to correct this. Additionally, I wanted to have good distance vision in my partially corrected right eye, as monocular vision was becoming more difficult to maintain.
Dr. Gulani was able to offer me an alternative with an implantable lens, which corrected for long distance, but still maintained near vision for my work. This was a technically difficult procedure for several reasons. Not only was it was mathematically difficult to correct, because of my previous Lasik surgery, but also more complex surgically. This was due to my eye lying deeper than usual in my eye socket and my cataract being denser.
Dr. Gulani was able to accomplish this brilliantly, and my vision is now close to 20/20 in that eye, with only some astigmatism remaining for future Lasik correction.
            As a physician, I am impressed with
Dr. Gulani’s masterful surgical skills,
but just as much by the evident desire he has to take
each patient to the best vision that can be obtained. This is clearly a passion for this physician, and I salute him for it.
