Dr. Arun C Gulani is a world destination for MGP surgeries as in complications of Dry eyes, and any surgical complications etc.
The Oil layer is among the 3 important layers of your tear film which protects (from Evaporation) and maintains (Vertically) the water layer. This Meibum (oil) layer is produced by your Meibomian Glands in your lids. Think of these 20-30 glands per lid as toothpaste tubes arranged to open at each eye lash.
When these glands are blocked due to multiple reasons, you result in Meibomian Gland Disease (MGD) and hence the tear film is unstable and causes dryness along with foreign body sensation, redness and occasional reflex watering as symptoms. Part of the Dry eye spectrum , this disease can also be associated with ocular surface instability
In order to retrieve your own oil layer, a custom-designed treatment can be initiated to include Meibomian Gland Probing (MGP) using special progressive, non-piercing, sterile probes that literally “pop” the pre-existing opening of the Meibomian glands and recover their secretion and function.
